Yes: ELISA or enzyme linked immunoassay for detection of antibody against HIV has a window between 30 days and up to six but after initial HIV exposure.  Western blot it&#x27;s a confirmatory test if the initial ELISA test is positive. However, rapid qualitative immunoassay for antibody against HIV virus alone is not indicative of negative HIV test since The virus can be dormant for several months.

i tested for hiv using oraquick mouth swab home test after 81 days. it was negative. is that conclusive? how liked it can be positive after 90 days?

: It is almost certain you do not have HIV, and retesting at 90 days will also be negative. However, the oral fluids test misses up to 5% of HIV infections no matter how long after the exposure. If it was a truly high risk exposure, you should have a lab based AgAb (4th generation) blood test.

: Enough. You do not to test more for HIV, however, HIV is only one of the STDs. A condom may not protect against HPV, Herpes, LGV, syphilis, pubic lice etc. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation.

Depends: Hiv test can be negative for several weeks after exposure. Therefore it is recommended that you repeat the HIV test about 6 months after exposure. If negative, repeat it after one year because some patients develop antibodies after long time. There are also tests available that detect the virus (antigen). Talk to your physician about it.

Fairly accurate: Per the FDA, approximately the OraQuick HIV test has a sensitivity of 92% (the percentage of results that will be positive when HIV is present). That means ~8% of negative tests will be falsely negative, or that for every 12 negative results, one will be incorrect (actually positive). If you have risk factors for HIV, repeating the test every 1-3 months is recommended.  Condoms are best prevention

HIV antibody tests: No.  The antibody testing that is the routine way to test for HIV is not a good test for such a time this close to exposure. 

But, there is the HIV pcr dna tests. These would be conclusive at four weeks. Unfortunately, this type of testing is not available as a home test.

Fairly good.: If the test is performed exactly as instructed, a false negative test is very unlikely in advanced HIV/AIDS.  (A false negative is a negative test in a person who, in fact, does have the condition being tested.)  However, it's also unlikely that a person with late stage HIV/AIDS wouldn't already have sought medical care since they would be quite symptomatic by then.

NEVER definitive: There are several percent false negatives on home oraquick. Alex, you can't go on worrying like this -- it'll slow you down emotionally and interfere with your work and just being happy.
