Soon: There is no vaccine available, and none is on the horizon yet.  There is a medication that is already being used for treatment that is likely will be approved for prevention. Very expensive: Health-wise it can set up for other things, including some cancers and opportunistic infections.  Financially, the medications used to treat HIV and aids are, usually, very pricey.

GET TESTED!!: If you believe that you have early HIV disease you should tell your doctor so you can be tested and if positive started on haart immediately.  We know that treating acute retroviral syndrome with haart decreases the damage done to the immune system from hiv.  Get tested!

Should be no effect: Most persons with HIV do not even know they are infected.  Most not infected with HIV do not know if the person next to them has HIV or not.  This means that we should consider all persons as potential infectious unless we know their status.  That means protection at all times: condoms, no sharing needles, don't put yourself in a situation where you may be at risk (drugs/alcohol). Be smart!

Neither: Neither gender is more at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS. It depends more on what risk behavior someone is engaging in. Thus, if someone is having unprotected sex or sharing needles, then this person is at higher risk for contracting HIV (whether the person is a male or female) than someone who is not engaging in these risky activities.

Yes.: The main symptoms of HIV / aids are related to immune system suppression.  There are other diseases that can cause immune suppression, some of these include hematologic malignancies (leukemias), autoimmune disease (lupus, etc...), and inherited immunodeficiency syndromes.
