HIV Seroconversion: Recommended testing is 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months respectively.  The reason it goes out to 6 months is that there have been documented cases of delayed seroconversion that far out.  At 6 months, studies have shown that 98% of people who will go on to develop HIV will have serosconverted by then.  The testing is very accurate.  A viral load can be ordered as well which may be more definite.
