what is causing hip pain after a fall?

The injury: You could of strained a muscle, or ligament. You could of fractured bone, you could of bruised bone or soft tissue. You could of caused nerve irritation. 
After the fall, ice and an antiinflammatory are a good idea, if after 3 days there is still pain and discomfort a trip to the orthopedist is a good idea.

i already take a baby aspirin for heart health. can i take a higher dose for hip pain after a fall?

Yes and no: Aspirin interferes with blood clotting mechanisms. Therefore immediately after a fall if there is any suspicion of active bleeding it should not be used along with other agents, such as ibuprofen.
After a fall with  resulting in hip pain i would be concerned with impending hip fracture versus muscular trauma which requires a thorough examination.
If there is no danger adult dosage may be used.

Depends on cause: By 'hip' do you mean actual hip joint (=groin pain), lateral bruising or muscle strain?Posterior hip (buttock or sacroiliac joint pain)?Pelvic crest pain?All are commonly called 'hip.'so, location is important to know, then you must define type of injury (crush, bruise, tear, fracture, etc.)a good history & physical by your doc & osteopathic hands-on exam may define the cause & lead to pain relief.

Yes, you can.: If it doesn't hurt to lie on your side, then I don't see why not. Your body will tell you with pain what is best usually.

Hip pain: Common hip problems presenting in the teens would be slipped femoral epiphysis, avulsion fracture, osteomyelitis.  Uncommon conditions but possibilites could be leukemia, osteoid osteoam, Ewing sarcoma or Osteosarcoma. Simple laxity in the hip causing subluxation common.

Cartilage loss: You have osteoarthritis of the hips due to the wearing out of cartilage resulting in bone rubbing against bone which causes the pain. An orthopedic surgeon would be best to advise you of the extent of your arthritis and what treatment options are available to you.

Typically not: Cellulitis should not cause difficulty in balance or falling although if there is pain or discomfort in the affected leg, then gait and standing may be affected to avoid the discomfort which in turn may lead to increase risk if fall in a very obese person. If pain in the hip occurred after a fall, it should be evaluated to rule out fracture or dislocation.

Most likely soft ti-: Ssue contusional injuries from the fall with superficial neuritis (of the nerves in and just below the skin). These get better slowly and sometimes can take up to 2 years to completely resolve. So your getting better slowly is a good sign. Hang in there, it should improve. Rarely there may be some residual numbness but the majority would subside.
