Your symptoms: are too "general" to comment upon...you need an in person visit with your Primary Care physician or Family doctor. This pain can be primary (shoulder joint) or referred pain (from cardiopulmonary source)

See a doctor.: There are many possible causes of this pain. With hypertension you are risk for heart disease. What you describer is consistent with angina so I would take it as a priority to be evaluated by your physician.

Blood pressure : When there is a difference in pressure between the two arms, there is usually obstruction to flow in the one with the lower measured pressure. The obstruction may be in the aortic arch or subclavian or in the limb itself. It is worth having your son checked for cause.

Ventilation: Is it possible you were hyperventilating?  Sounds like a heavy breathing induced  phenomena. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

When : When you have such a problem in both arms, some consideration should be given to there being a a single problem at a point in your body at which it could affect both arms. It would be worthwhile to see whether you are having an issue in your neck, such as a herniated disc or arthritis that causes pinching on the nerves that go out to the arms from the spinal cord. It also remains a possibility that there are separate problems in each arm, so it's a good idea to ge tthis checked out. A visit to an orthopaedic surgeon can help you localize, diagnose and hopefully treat your problem. Good luck!

Bp: You can have up to a ten point variation any greater may represent an arterial narrowing in the arm arteries ( the arm with the lower pressure ) found often in smokers.
