Need further Eval: Might be nothing or may be more serious.
Need special tests to determine if you have a "myeloproliferative disease" such as primary thrombocytosis, chronic myelogenous leukemia, or polycythemia vera.

Not to worry.: Most people who have slight elevations of platelet count have no blood disease.  Normal ranges vary slightly from lab to lab because of slight differences in lab techniques and how "normal" is defined.

More info needed: High blood and platelet counts may mean nothing, but need to evaluate based on examination,  white blood cell count and how high red cell count and platelet counts are.  Iron deficiency can increase platelets as can inflammation; high altitude and smoking can raise the red count---a good history and physical are needed.

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, Mean platelet volume of 11.6 by itself is no cause for concern. A typical range of platelet volumes is 9.7–12.8 fL.

i am from the uk. i have noticed my platelet levels on my blood results have been high for a while. used to range from 325-397 since around 2014. however since 2019 they have went from 408. this year: 392, 403, 434, 424, 435 and now 480. why?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, iron deficiency is a common cause of elevated platelet counts and it is common in young women. Take oral iron and multivitamins and retest in 3-6 months.    Wish you good health!

High platelets : Your platelets are mildly elevated and there are many other situations in which they are elevated, aside from cancer. Your treating physician should be able to followup properly.

They can be high due to a blood disorder (myeloproliferative neoplasia).  Platelets also can be elevated in response to serious illnesses.  The cause should be investigated, found and if possible treated.
