The A1C measures: your glucose continuously over the past 3 months. So one glucose reading can be normal but you are spiking above normal at times if your AIC is high. Think of the A!C as an average glucose overr the last 3 months. If it is high,you  are having some abnormal sugars.

Pre-diabetes: Glucose a simple sugar that is an important energy source in living organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates. As per guidelines fasting blood glucose between 100 to 126 is prediabetic stage. In this stage you can do lifestyle modifications like brisk walking for 30 mins, decrease consumption of rice, potato, sugar, pastry , honey, etc., and bring your fasting blood sugar 100 or below.

Several causes: The correlation between a1c and FBS is not perfect. A1c is like a glu average. If you have frequent hypoglycemia, then that may be "balancing" the high glu.  Another possibility is a hemoglobinopathy. There are many causes of abnormal hemoglobin, most common is sickle trait, which cause no symptoms but mess up the a1c.  An alternate to the a1c is a measure of fructosamine.

It could happen: High A1c means you have a high average bs over the last 2-3 months.  If you checked bs at the wrong tme, sometimes you will get a normal bs number.  The more bs you check, the less likely you will find a normal bs with a high a1c.

Diabetes: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, a Hb A1c level of 7.4 is diabetes, unless proven otherwise. You should contact your doctor to ensure proper treatment.

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, why was insulin level tested? It is not a usual test. Rest of your results are normal. If you do not have any symptoms, do not be concerned.

Yes: Several of the medications used to treat HIV can cause elevation in triglyceride and blood sugar levels. Discuss with your doctor.

Prediabetic..: The MCH isn’t bothering me as much as the vitamin D deficiency and possible Prediabetes.  The blood glucose and A1C are in the prediabetic range, putting you at increased risk for the eventual development of diabetes.  Discuss options with your regular provider and consider 2000IU of vitamin D3 daily.

R/O DIABETES 2: HBA1C of 6.5 is the cut off for Diabetes 2, it is a very common condition. The first step is to focus on weight loss. Weight gain/Obesity is at the root of most adult onset diabetes . The fatty tissue absorbs insulin. And an appropriate treatment regimen will be started. I usually start with metformin .Follow up is essential every 3 mths.with monitoring of HBA1C. Also begin a gluten free diet.

Blood glucose: The a1c is an average of all your blood sugars over about 2 months.  How often do you test your glu?  You can't measure your glu 24/7. An a1c of 7.0 is actually fairly good.  I suspect there is a time of day when your glu values are higher than you may realize. Most commonly this is during the night, maybe early am. This is called the dawn phenomenon.
