Some...: Biologic mesh for recurrent is generally safe. Like any foreign body, it could become infected, cause a stricture, or in rare cases even erode into the esophagus. That being said, it plays a very important role in reducing the recurrence rate of your hernia from as high as 20-25% down to 3-5%.

No surgery: 90-95 % of people with GERD get better with medication.
surgery reserved to a very small section of people .
yes you can have a hiatal hernia surgery without the fundoplication, but that will not stop the efflux in any way.
try to get the best medical treatment before start thinking about surgery.

Not likely: most hiatal hernias and umbilical hernias do not cause any symptoms.  There are some types of hiatal hernias that can cause symptoms and may require treatment. You should discuss this with your doctor and may need an upper endoscopy.

U Need Upper GI: By the sound of your symptoms, it's possible that the hiatal hernia has returned. I advise you to return to your surgeon. They will order an upper GI to look more carefully at your "wrap" and see where your stomach is in relation to your diaphragm. I hope it's a false alarm but, worst case scenario, it's fixable.  Good luck.

i am 62 years old with barrett's and no displasia. i havemoderate hiatal hernia. a hard fall on the side seems tohave worsened the hernia/discomfort. could it be a possible barrett's acceleration? my next endoscopy is in two years and i am getting anxious

Maybe: My advice to you is to meet the gastroenterologist and talk to him about repeating upper endoscopy.   How ever, barrets without dysplasia would not require frequent endoscopic biopsies.

See a doctor: Sounds like you need a new work up and evaluation with your doctor if it has been 3 years since you had a gallbladder evaluation. What testing was done to identify a hiatal hernia? Many people have small hiatal hernia findings that are treated with appropriate medications from their doctor.

Muscle pain: Hiatus hernia if small rarely causes pain, if it is large surgery should be considered. This pain is very often muscular.
