Indirectly, at best.: A hiatal hernia, by definition, is an enlarged opening in the diaphragm muscle that separates the chest from abdominal cavity.  It is often used interchangeably with gerd; while often both present, they are distinctly separate diseases.  Exercise may indirectly help gerd by leading to weight loss but it will not improve the anatomical abnormality of a hiatal hernia.

: Most people with uncomplicated hiatal hernias eat just about anything. If you eat garlic and experience no intolerance it would be the best test.

Not really: A hiatal hernia is an anatomic abnormality that cannot correct itself.  However, people mistakingly refer to a "hiatal hernia" when they mean gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd).  Many people with gerd have no hernia and many people with hiatal hernias do not have gerd.  Gerd can respond very well to conservative measures such as changes in diet, wt loss, medication, etc.

Not sure: Whole I'm not sure what you mean by a hiatal hernia attack, large hiatal hernias (called paraesophageal hernias)  can cause chest pain and pressure similar to a heart condition. Make sure your heart is ok before attributing these symptoms to a hiatal  hernia. Hope this helps!

Most asymptomatc: Most hiatal hernias are asymptomatic.  When symptoms occur, they are usually reflux, burning and regurgitation. Large hhs can cause pain after eating, fullness, vomiting. Rarely hiatal hernias require emergent repair if they volvulize (twist).  A volvulus could cause the the stomach to lose its blood supply and necrose (die). A surgeon can help evaluate a hh and determine if it needs repair.

Clear it: with your physician first. Isolated leg and arm muscle exercises should be OK, but avoid clean and jerks, power lifts or any lifts that involve the abdominal muscles or stress the core. The pressure could strangulate your intestine and put you in the hospital.

It occurs through the hiatus in the diaphragm muscle, through the passage space for the esophagus and aorta from the chest into the abdomen. Its symptoms are likely to be heartburn and acid reflux into the esophagus.

Depends: Small hiatal hernias are nothing to weepy about, and can be associated with reflux disease, but not necessarily in a cause-effect relationship. Large hernias, also known as paraesophageal hernias, can pose problems with swallowing, bleeding and chest pain. If the hernia is large, consider a consult with an experienced laparoscopic surgeon (general or thoracic). Hope this helps!
