my dr suspects pstt but says i need a biopsy before surgery? the mass is 7 cm and has an adjacent heterogenous echogenic mass against. isn't a biopsy before surgery a waste of time? i would need additional referrals. trying to get to uc irvine quickly.

Uterus pp: After 7 weeks pp your uterus should be of normal size. I would definetly be worried about it and would perform an HCG quantitative to make sure its zero. There are serious pathologies that can ocurr pp or after any type of pregnancy. Also placenta might be retained inside the uterus . Please follow up with your doctor.

Mixed echo pattern: Heterogeneous echogenic means ultrasound characteristics of area examined have combination of none, low and high echogenic pattern. This is compared to diffusely homogeneous pattern where diffusely same echo pattern. Certain lesions can be diagnosed by their echo pattern.

It depends on the modality of the test (ultrasound or ct) and the location as to the diagnostic significance. Obgyn evaluation: You will need to see an Obgyn and have them do an examination. They will also want to review the pelvic sonogram that showed the complex ovarian mass. After they do this they should be able to determine if this is a mass that will resolve on its own or if surgical removal is needed.
