That's fine: It's the lab's discretion depending on the precision of the assay. Truth is that herpes serology is only helpful as an adjunct to the clinical diagnosis of genital herpes, and is far from totally sensitive and very far from totally specific. Make any decision about treatment with your physician, with this information as one of several factors.

: No.  The sensitivity of HerpeSelect 2 vary from 80 to 98%.  Another caveat to consider is the positive HerpeSelect 2 ELISA IgG in low index values (1.1-3.5) could be a false positive test.

i got a type specific test for hsv1&2. results were neg but no index numbers. i always get the numbers,this time i didn't. was i tested wrong? i am worried. maybe something changed with the test or lab i use? quest diagnostic & herpeselect test.

Probably ok: If you've always tested negative before and the test was reported as negative this time, I would not be concerned.  Even if the index numbers were to change a little, as long as they are in the negative range then the test is considered negative.

is the herpeselect igg blood test conclusive after 3 months of sexual encounter? is a negative blood test reliable?should another blood test be taken at 6 months post encounter to be extra sure? i tested negative for both types of herpes at 3 months.

A negative IgG at: 3 months after a sexual encounter reliably rules out HSV  from that encounter.  However, it doesn't mean you can't contract HSV from a subsequent encounter.  You would need a repeat test only if you've had another, more recent, sexual encounter.

Herpes I and II: It is possible for Herpes I and II to be temporarily dormant, so IgG testing may not detect actual infection.  Under stressful conditions, either type of Herpes may become active and therefore testable via IgG testing, so it is not 100% conclusive that Herpes is not present by IgG testing at intervals.  It is also possible that you did not have Herpes when "clinically diagnosed".

HSV 2 : A positive igg antibody test (what you had) for hsv means you have antibodies from a previous infection--not necessarily a current one.  Treatment depends on how often you break out--if you don't break out often, you may not need anything.  There is no permanent treatment to rid yourself of the virus.  Your doc can give you the best advice.

Herpes Testing: First, if you know you have herpes why would you need another test? Second, if you do not know what type of infection you have then this is a vital test and I am not sure why any physician would not order it.

: An equivocal result of 1.07 means that you might or might not have Herpes Simplex Virus.  Since it is at the upper end of the equivocal range, it is more likely to be a positive, but it does warrant a retest if possible.

already had hsv1 mouth.  have had two cold sores on penis since january.  herpeselect test negative for hsv2  at 2.5 months, and again after 5 months.  igg .22 and .54.  can hsv1 migrate to groin?

Doubt penile herpes: Transfer of HSV from one body site to another can happen, but almost entirely during the initial infection; it's rare after more than a few months. So probably you did not infect your penis with HSV1 from your mouth. The HSV2 tests show it isn't HSV2 either. Therefore, it is unlikely the penile sores were herpes. Next time, see a doctor ASAP for exam and PCR test or culture for HSV.
