Herpes type I ?: Herpes types I and II are usually self limited ulcers which are painful but do not generally cause "horrible back pain".  Shingles, however, which comes from Herpes Simplex (latent "chicken pox") can cause very painful skin lesions and lower back pain. See your physician for testing to be certain.

Herpes: If we knew this reason we would both be very famous.  Most people have no outbreaks with herpes infection and some have recurring outbreaks without much evidence of why. But, if you are not taking something to prevent your outbreaks i would advise you find an expert and get care from them. You should not be having outbreaks or flare ups. This can usually be prevented.

No: After 2 years most likely expired do not take an expired medication. Call your prescribing doctor and perhaps he will refill them for you or request to see you if it has been a while

I would avoid topical herbs oils, Lysine helps.

i have herpes and have been prescribed anti viral medication to take everyday, however at the moment i have an aggressive flare up will these work?

Increase the dose: Assuming acyclovir or valacyclovir for suppression, during an outbreak you should increase the dose for a few days. Check with the doctor or clinic who prescribed it for the exact dose and duration. You can also ask if you should take a higher dose for ongoing treatment. For example, 1 g valacyclovir daily sometimes is more effective than 500 mg, especially if outbreaks are fairly frequent.

Exanthema subitum: Hhv6 and hhv7  can cause high fever in healthy infant (9-12month) followed by rash (small blanchable pink macules and papules on trunk and neck). Self limited course with rare sequelae. Virus persists thru the life of the patient.  Reactivation age 10 - 43 may result in  pitryriasis rosea which is c;haracterized by fine scaling papules andplaques with marginal collarette on trunk, arms  and legs.

Depends on location: This depends on the location of the outbreak. If well away from the lower abdomen, i.e. where the laparoscopy will be done, probalby no problem. But of course check with your doctor. Recurrent shingles is very rare. If recurrent herpes anywhere from upper thighs to the waist, more likely this is recurrent genital herpes due to HSV2, not herpes zoster.

: Oral and genital HSV lesions may occur simultaneously or individually, as they are slightly different serotypes, and both activated by stress, causing circulating virus to enable HSV ulcers.  Basically HSV I and HSV II are co-existent varieties of the same virus.

Likely allergy: If it itches, it is more likely to be from an allergy= most likely contact allergy.  I suspect that some oral preparations may be the cause. Consider consulting an allergist.

Latex condoms: do protect. No,there is no way to tell if a man has genital herpes when he is in remission by visual inspection.
