None: Stop steroid nasal spray, Make your carbonated drink flat before you consume, don't go to bed immidiately with full stomach. stay upright for a hr or so. keep the head end of bed raised 15-30 deg. Limit irretant, hot, spicy food.

Possible but: not likely much of a contribution.  As strokes do frequently cause swallowing problems but they tend to be of the type that involves the muscles of the tonge/back of the mouth/throat instead of the motility of the esophagus - that tends to be more of a complicated age related process.

Muscle coordination: The esophagus is just a long muscle.  There has to be coordination to push food from your mouth to your stomach and sometimes the coordination of this muscle does not work effectively leading to a motility disorder.  Just like your skeletal muscles sometimes cramp and get tired and dont work well this same process can happen to the esophagus muscle.

long standing gerd w/ dysphagia, on nexium. normal manometry in 09/22, normal egd in 07/22. egd feb '23 irregular z line, very tight ues switched to peds scope, yeast and hyphae present in middle third esophagus. causes? treatment?

: Hard to know what causes esophageal yeast infections-are you taking inhaled steroids? If so, rinse and spit after each use. There is treatment for esophageal yeast infections-either oral lozenges can be used, typically 5x daily or systemic treatment can be given, depending on the extent of the infection. : Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables &amp; whole grains, eat slowly, avoid alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, spicy foods, onions, citrus &amp; fried food, drink lots of water, do not smoke, stay upright for a couple hours after you eat, &amp; reduce stress. And please get an exam from a physician as soon as possible. Be well!

i was told i had barretts esophagus and now its cancer. what is treatment?

Probably surgery.: Barretts esophagus is a precursor to adenocarcinoma of the esophagus.  Treatment is chiefly with surgery.  Curative resection is rarely possible, with <20% 5-year survival in patients with resectable tumors.  Palliative measures include laser ablation, mechanical dilatation, radiotherapy, and luminal (phenobarbital) prosthesis to bypass the tumor.  Gastrostomy and jejunostomy are done for nutritional support.
