how much time does the surgery of a capillay hemangioma on lip take?

Varies: Lip capillary hemangioma are very common and their treatment varies.  Most commonly they are small and can be treated without surgery by use of a laser.  I treat these frequently with a 940 diode laser with excellent results.  If larger they can be treated by a combination of sclerotherapy and laser.  Only those hemangiomas that cannot be treated by the above methods may require surgery.

my 3 month old has a notable hemangioma on her upper lip and may still grow further. the right side of her lip is already hanging  and stretching down due to the weight of the hemangioma. can this interfere with her speech in future?

Depends on size: A hemangioma on the lip that is should be evaluated by a plastic surgeon.  If it is small it might be desirable to wait until the baby is older.  However, if it is enlarging, a plastic surgeon might recommend treating it sooner. The baby is too young now to consider that it will affect speech.

Very doubtful: Hemangioms can spontaneously regress and or disappear. This is especially true in children. There is a very rare condition called a hemangiosarcoma, but i've only seen one in 40 yr of medical practice and hundreds of hemangiomas.

Dry eye: Your dry eye symptoms are not related to your liver lesion.  I would recommend getting the scan to further evaluate the lesion.

Watch and Wait: Hemangiomas may grow and max out in size until 6-8 mos of age.Then they disappear with age, but may take several years.If it is a problem, see your doctor.

Small/large vessels: Infantile hemangiomas are benign vascular lesions that have a characteristic clinical course marked by early proliferation and followed by spontaneous involution by 9 years old. A capillary hemangioma is the most common type. It is made up of small capillaries that are normal in size and diameter, but high in number. A cavernous hemangioma is made up of larger blood vessels that are dilated.

These: lesions are almost always BENIGN!!  They are NOT associated with a risk of death. Follow your Primary Health Care Provider's lead and consult with the proper surgeon if removal is being considered.

Benign growth: Its a growth thats not cancerous. It's made up of cells from blood vessels.

Accepted Answer

Examination: It is raised collection of blood. Small ones are diagnosed by observation. Large ones may be also examined with a sonogram to detect the size. Small ones are removable with vascular laser. Large congenital hemangiomas are now treated with beta blockers.
