Too heavy: Most weight is gained in the last part of preg.  In fact most pts. Gain little or no wt in 1st trimester. Any early gain adds to the total.
Excess gain, in total increases risks of gestational diabetes, large infants with difficult deliveries, possible increase childhood obesity and may permanently alter mothers metabolic rate, the wrong direction.

Quite variable: Most women gain about 2-4lbs.During the first trimester and 1 lb./wk from there. Some none, other my lose due to n/v. An average weight woman should gain a total of 25-35 lbs., underweight women 28-40 lbs., and overweight women 15-25 lbs. You don't have to "eat for two", but be sure to eat a variety of nutritious foods. Moderate exercise is also recommended, but talk to your doctor for more info.

Weight pregnancy: Weight gain in pregnancy varies according to your BMI. If you are overweight or obese it is 10-20 pounds. You should never try to lose weight while pregnant. If you lose weight but eat a healthy diet and exercise and are overweight it can be ok. If you are worried, definitely eat healthy, exercise, and watch your weight. Good luck.

No: What do you mean by "showing?"  do you mean a pregnancy bulge over your jeans?  For the most part, a first-trimester pregnant uterus (12 weeks maximum) will just barely reach the top of your pubic bone.  Many women will have gained some weight, but for the most part, the "pregnancy bulge" many women are proud to have shows up a few weeks later.
