Oh yes, and a good mental health professional  has a goal of getting a patient healthy enough to not have to come back.

A short term one: like the ca "5150 hold" to a mh facility ; it requires danger to 1) self, 2)others 3) or gravely disabled or  substantially unable  to care for self. In va usually this is argued by family, mental health practitioner or law enforcement and heard by admin law magistrate. 5250 type holds in va go 14 days.

Go East: Very east. Sadly I have been told that romania has very bad conditions. As to the newer east block countries or afghanistan, i believe humane treatment is a low priority.

Depends on the issue: Generally, the staff need to be dealt with respect and politeness -- these qualities usually bring more results. Is there any particular issue you'd like to address with the staff? If you want diagnosis or treatment related info, your loved one or his/her power of attorney or legal guardian will have to sign consent. The question is too broad and needs to be more specific for a specific answer.

Often they are placed in a facility against their will and can experience anger, frustration, and even fear.  They may feel abandoned by their family and friends.  They may struggle forming new relationships.  Gradually as they learn to fit in they will join the program instead of fighting against it.

I hope not: Haunted health care facilities would pose a major problems for patients and chickens like me.

I know these facilities often make for great horror movies, especially all the dark corridors. There's a lot of effort now to make hospitals more patient friendly, better lit with a warmer atmosphere.
