Watch and wait: With very mild symptoms you do not need to be tested.Your temperature is important. if your symptoms worsen or a fever develops or you start coughing and shortness of breath you need to seek help. stay home and treat the symptoms with paracetamol.

Symptoms: without the benefit of an examination suggest a viral syndrome. Drinking plenty of warm fluids, use of analgesics and rest may be helpful. However persistence or worsening of symptoms or development of respiratory distress are indications for immediate evaluation and treatment

Vague symptoms: These symptoms can be in seen in a multitude of conditions. An infectious mononucleosis-like syndrome is possible, but in order to be adequately diagnosed you need to be seen and examined as part of the evaluation. Best.

No single best drug: There are many over-the-counter medications to address your husband's symptoms, some of which may not be the wisest depending upon his medical history. Acetaminophen is typically safe for aches, pains & fevers in those w/o liver problems and who don't drink to excess. Nsaids like Ibuprofen & Naproxen also work but may increase blood pressure, irritate kidneys & cause bleeding in stomach. Go c doc.

Viral illness: With those symptoms and a negative strep, this illness is likely caused by one of many viruses that are circulating around the country.  That's good news and bad news. Good news is you don't need any medicines to treat it - your body will do that for you. Bad news is you have to rest and take care of yourself for a few days so your body can fight the infection. Rest, fluids, and TLC to yourself.

Hello, : Hello, you could have a virus or possibly stretph throat.  Consider  warm salt water gargles for your sore throat or possibly throat lozenges containing benzocaine. Lots of liquids (especially water). Rest, stay warm, tylenol (acetaminophen) or Aspirin for pain. Since sore throat was the first symptom you listed, sounds like this is prominent, so talk to your doctor about getting tested for streph throat. Hope you feel better soon.

Posibilities: My first thought would focus on the nasal airway. If you have allergies/irritants/sinus swelling that narrows the nasal airway your mouth breathing during sleep will cause a sore throat. This can be aggravated in an environment like a heated house, because low humidity adds to the problem. A humidifier and generous use of nasal saline may give you some relief.

Most likely a Cold due to Viral Infection. Usually Fever/ Headache medications like Ibuprofane/Tylenol help. OTC decongestants like Zyrtec/ Claritin (loratadine) can help.
