Lots of effort: There is a large movement to not coat the head with Permethrin or lindane due to potential neurotoxicity, and the risk is relevant. Non medicated products like licemd or ovid are effective, but nothing works better than the nit-loosening gel (ok, so it's not totally natural), the fine toothed comb, and lots of time and effort getting out all nits and lice. Then repeating the effort.

If there are nits after 7 to 10 days – a 2nd pediculicide tx may be needed.

A good soaking in a stout vinegar will loosen the egg casings so they are easier to remove with a fine comb &amp; it may have a toxic effect on the lice. There are several OTC hair products all of which work in some cases. There are also prescription products that can help the resistant cases.

Irritation?: There coukd e sensitive nerves which cause disconfort. After evaluation if the skin looks normal and there are no underlying medical problems such as diabetes or thyroid issues, intralesional steroids Lidocaine may give you relief.
