Ultrasound Needed: At 8 weeks, an ultrasound can confirm a viable fetus and reassure you. If HCG titers are being drawn, I'm guessing an ultrasound wasn't helpful. Usually, a level of 10,000 is high enough to see a viable (normal) pregnancy.  Your levels have plateaued so the concern would be that your pregnancy is not progressing normally. Follow up with your OB Doc and good luck.

To address your question, if the HCG levels double in 2 days, that is evidence against threatened miscarriage.

Ultrasound: Sonograms are useful in estimating due date and conception date, as well as viability.  Blood levels are rising, however, they should approximately double every 2 days. The levels are doubling, but time between tests, was not given.

Not likely: The current tests for HCG are quite sensitive and a properly done test, after a week of missed period, will be positive, if the woman is pregnant. You may wish to see your doctor for a blood test and may be an ultrasound exam.

What is the level?: It depends, have you had an ultrasound? You should be able to see a heartbeat on transvaginal ultrasound by a level of 1500 and 2500 on abdominal ultrasound. If your levels are skyhigh already the number does not necessarily double, however it is a bit worrysome if your levels are still low (below 5000) and you need to follow up closely with your doc to make sure there is no tubal pregnancy!

HCG/pregnancy?: HCG is made during pregnancy.  If your levels "dropped to normal" Oct. 27th, and you are not using birth control , you may again be pregnant. See your ob/gyn provider for an exam and repeat quantitative HCG level.

?: I'm not sure what you mean - but if you conceived 8 to 9 weeks ago - you would have known if you already have an ectopic - as you would be in pain, a LOT of pain by now.

i am 5.5 weeks  pregnant today. on april 8 my hcg levels came back at 14, 767. is that too high? i've been reading average is like 9, 000

HCG: That level may be perfectly normal.  Hcg levels are not a perfect science.  Ultrasound can better date the pregnancy than hcg.  Also, the higher level can indicate twins which can also be seen on ultrasound.
