Difficult to know: If every person who claimed they had cfs actually did, then recovery is incredibly uncommon.  The problem is that often this is a diagnosis of exclusion.  The only proven cause is herpes type 6 and this is not treatable.  The myriad of conditions responsible for chronic fatigue makes it a target for those who like to be able to label things.  Often there may be end benefits to claiming this.

Some yes, some no: This is a tough question to answer with confidence because the medical community still doesn't fully understand this syndrome. It can have many different causes, some of which are curable and others, not. Depending on the cause, if diagnosed, one can recover from cfs. Regardless, it is a long, slow process that can be measured in months if not years- akin to a marathon, not a a 100 yard sprint.

Still a mystery: Chronic fatigue syndrome refers to severe, continued tiredness that is not relieved by rest and is not directly caused by other medical conditions. As part of the definition of cfs other conditions known to cause fatigue are not present. The cause of cfs is still a mystery but  there is often evidence of immune dysfunction and many theorize it is caused by viruses. Please see my comments for more:.

Without waiting too long make an appointment to see your doctor and find out what is going on. It may take some time to decide what is happening and how to treat it  - all the more reason to go soon.

Not easy: This condition, perhaps as a sequel to a viral illness, causes tiredness, muscle aching, joint pain and mental fatigue.  More common in women, it can affect all age groups, responds poorly to medication, and in extreme cases leaves the patient mostly bedridden.  There is no laboratory testing that makes the diagnosis.  There are strong psychological underpinnings.

Provigil and Nuvigil: These drugs help symptomatically, but studies have shown that people with cfs are relatively deconditioned.  If this is applicable to you, you will be more fatigued  during any exertional activity.  Excercise is the best medicine.
