Show your doctor: When you see your doctor next, show this to her.  It may be a good idea to get rid of rather than watch and wait.  If it is a benign lipoma it can grow.  If it is scar tissue from previous abscesses, she can remove it. If it bothers you or looks unsightly have it removed.

Some possibilities: Pain in the armpit can be from the skin, the muscles, the lymph nodes, the ribs, etc...  The best person to see first is the primary care doctor, who can then refer to a specialist if he is not able to diagnose and solve the problem. A lump can be a cyst, a lymph node, an infected oil gland in the skin, a skin abscess, etc... (so a doctor should take a look).

: From the description you have an infected sweat or odor gland at the site. Sometimes moist heat applied several times a day will promote blood flow and self healing in a few days. If this persists, your doc may need to drain what may have become an abscess.

Axillary LN: Would make an appointment with  a breast surgeon. get a mammogram and  f/u /w/ breast surgeon for biopsy. Swollen LN that persist &gt; 1 month should be biopsied. It can  also  be a sign of autoimmune disease.  Good luck . Dont worry most likely just reactive but you need confirmation

There are many common things that a hard, red lump in the armpit skin could be such as: 
- inflammed lymph node 
- ingrown hair 
- sebaceous cyst 
- abscess or boil (infection) 
- folliculitis (infection of the hair follicle)

if it is painful, enlarging, or if you are suddenly noticing more, give your doctor a call.  You should start with your pcp first since they treat a wide variety of problems and you are more likely to be able to see them sooner than a gynecologist or dermatologist.  Odds are, they'll be able to treat you.  If they think you should see a specialist, they'll let you know.
