Probably not TMJ: Your TMJ is just medial to the tragus of your ear. Your post did not say how long you have this growth or if it increasing in mass, but it should be evaluated by a physician to determine its cause and the proper course of treatment.

Possibly Lipoma: Get it checked by your physician. If you can feel a soft lump with slippery margin and can move without pain underneath the skin, it can be a benign Fat accumulation. Does not need to be removed; but need to confirm the diagnosis.

Neck lump: A hard lump on the neck that lasts more than 2 weeks should be evaluated by a physician. Sometimes you can get a cyst or swollen lymph node, but if it's lasting for more than 2 weeks a clinical exam is important to determine whether this is something serious or not. If you have fever, redness over the lump, discharge from the lump, or difficulty opening your jaw you should see your doctor asap.

Blocked gland: A sebaceous cyst is a collection of oily fluid that occurs when an oil gland is blocked.  Some folks are more prone to them than other and they often appear on the neck, shoulders, and back.  Try to avoid skin products that are oily. Stay away from transfats and bad oils, which is good for overall health.  See doc for proper diagnosis because it could be more serious.

Possibly lymph node?: Have lymph nodes throughout our bodies to protect us. Some are near surface of skin and you can feel. If you've had an ear infection recently or possibly scratched your scalp nearby the node could have started to swell as it pumped out lymphocytes. If it doesn't go down in a few weeks go see your doc.

Tissue's The Issue: Assessment of the formed elements in your blood along with serum assays do not rule out the existence of a benign or malignant tumor, congenital lesion, autoimmune process or atypical infection. A biopsy is needed. Sometimes imaging may help narrow the differential but finally a biopsy is likely to settle this question.
