Possible nerve: Nerve injuries tends to occur when standing and sitting and can be described as "tingly or burning."  If your pain is only when your standing you may have injured one of the small bones under the ball of your foot called "sesamoids."

Need exam: It is very difficult to say without seeing and examining the foot.  The hard lump may be a prominent bone such as the head of a metatarsal, it could be a tumor, it could just be part of the callous itself.  See your pcp or podiatrist for evaluation and treatment.

You need to make : Sure it is a callous and not something else. If its a callous and you are not diabetic you can attempt to remove it yourself or file it. A podiatrist would be able to do that painlessly for you though....

Hard toe lumps: These limps can be warts; sometimes they look yellowish and other times they look like they have small dots in it.  If you pinch it, does it hurt/ Warts usually hurt with the pinch test.  Calluses do not. See a Podiatrist and have them checked out.

: It very well could be the cause of your pain. The callus is a response to pressure from shoes. The callus will form cause pain as it increase in size. Callus is a response to pressure. Take away pressure , callus will not comeback. Try changing shoes.

Not sure : Why anyone would want this but they come from pressure/ friction usually over bony prominences or under areas of increased pressure.

Accepted Answer

Callus: Usually calluses are formed due to increased pressure.  To get rid of them may involve orthotics, change in shoegear, or even potentially surgery.  You can make them less painful with the use of moisturizers after getting your feet wet to the dry/callused areas.  Or use of a pumice stone daily after getting your feet wet as well.  I would not advise you take a razor to your feet!
