They may be harmless but occasionally can cause pain, bleeding, or pressure on surrounding structures. Your doctor can best decide the proper course for you to take regarding this particular lesion. Many can simply be observed.

These: lesions are almost always BENIGN!!  They are NOT associated with a risk of death. Follow your Primary Health Care Provider's lead and consult with the proper surgeon if removal is being considered.

NO: Of course, if you have reasons for thrombosis, or bad head trauma, you, like others could have such issues, but so far, you provide no reason to worry.

Not likely.: A hemangioma is a slow-growing benign vascular (blood vessel) lesion.  The blood vessels just grow that way sometimes.  A bruise is caused by leakage of blood from one or more capillaries (the tiniest blood vessels), usually due to an injury.

Hemangioma: Talk to your orthopedic surgeon.  Small ones that don't structurally effect the bone can be watched.  Larger ones may need removal and stabilization surgery

Incidental finding: This is an incidental finding that would be unrelated to reason for the test. It is a benign and common finding in bone that does not progress to anything. Just a "it's there"'comment by the radiologist.

Why?: How was the diagnosis of probable hemangioma made? Appearance of bone hemangioma on bone scanning is variable so you still wouldn't necessarily know for sure. Mri would be more specific. Unless you have any history of of malignancy and resultant concern of bony metastases i wonder why further investigation is being suggested.

Yes: Bone scan radioisotope excreted by kidneys. Photopenic areas (white spots) in kidneys suggest a space occupying lesion which is blocking normal excretion. Most likely since bilateral is renal cysts. Ultrasound of the kidneys or CT would confirm

See an orthopedist: There are several types of lesions that can be included in the differential diagnosis, but generally if the radiologist thinks it is a hemangioma they are correct. Defining this further will depend upon its clinical relevance, risks and cost of procedures (more imaging v. Surgery). Lnfections and lymphangiomatoses may be included in the differential diagnosis.

35 yo f w/rrms. brain mris every 6 mo. recent report: "t1&t2 hyperintensity, could be hemangioma in right frontal bone." do i need more testing?

Accepted Answer

Further testing: If you have been having an MRI every 6 months, it's possible this hyperintensity showed up before, but was not reported.  Sometimes small versions of this are missed during other tests.

Having another MRI in the future should be an adequate method to study this.  If you have another MRI 6 months from now, that should be helpful enough.
