ive had a terrible phlegm (think white or green) cough for over a month now. slightly stuffy nose as well. its always at its worst in the mornings. any suggestions?

Allergies?: Sounds like allergies, probably to something in the house.  As the cooler weather comes, we tend to spend more time inside.  And we sleep with the windows closed, so we’re exposed to allergens as we sleep and awaken symptomatic.  Pet dander?  Dust mites?  Mold in a central heating system?

i am getting over a cold stuffy nose cough phlegm. i now have a clogged ear and pressure in the back of my head when i cough sneeze or pick up my son.

Otitis ? : Your ears will improve when your sore throat and pharyngitis which leads to inflamed ear canals, has a chance to recover. Fluids, antihistamines, and antibiotics are all helpful adjuncts that, with time, will help to resolve the symptoms of your bacterial and/or viral pharyngitis. As long as your symptoms improve with therapy, you need not worry

Prob normal: 1--it is OK to drink Gatorade, or water

2-  you may have thick secretions which will sometimes cause nausea with the drainage.  drinking more fluids, ie  WATER  will loosen the secretions and make them easier to cough up

i have a stuffy nose and lots of flem everyday for awhile now...i thought it was allergies but im beginning to think i have sinus issues i get headach?

Allergy, sinus, both: It is difficult to separate allergic rhinitis from sinusitis.  While colds resolve over 7-10 days, allergies can have ongoing symptoms. Sinus infections can be a complication of a cold or allergies.  Typical symptoms are nasal congestion, post nasal drip, cough and fatigue.   The mucus may be discolored and frequently there is no fever. Bad breath is common. Sneezing and itching are lacking.

Viral syndrome : It sounds like you initially had an upper respiratory viral illness which then became a lower respiratory viral illness. If the duration of symptoms is beyond 10 days and you're getting worse, then it is likely that it has become a bacterial infection which likely needs antibiotics. If it had been less than 10 days, then you would continue doing conservative measures at home and see if it clears.

Mgt: Usually viral illnesses resolve by day 10-11. I would advise rest and hydration. If you continue to have symptoms at around day 21, a follow up appt for possible sinusitis.
If you develop high fever, please see your doctor.

Coughing: Use salt eater nose drops to help clear your nose 4 times daily. Use a vaporizer sleep on several pillows. Since its been longer than 10 days that you have been ill, see your pcp. You may have a sinus infection and need antibiotics.

Not generally: Color of phlegm can change to green or yellow in the absence of bacterial infection, and brown is generally just associated with the continued smoking. It sounds like you have chronic bronchitis, and continued smoking is going to cause more harm, including emphysema/COPD. You need to stop. Please talk to your doctor about ways to help you quit smoking and improve your cough and your health.

Blow your nose.: The best way to get rid of this is to blow your nose and get it out.  Sometimes your nose can be swollen from the flu, so nasal decongestants and cough medicine may be needed.  Allergies can cause this, like hay-fever in the spring and summer, so a Benadryl (diphenhydramine) might help.  All these things help depending on why your nose is stuffed.
