2-3 days: Typically after antibiotics 2-3 days of that should provide some improvement. Seeing your dentist after 5 days would be the best suggestion as they may have to perform a drainage of this abscess. Good luck

Abscess: Probably not dangerous since gastric acid will destroy most bacteria, but this should be seen by a dentist and treated aggressively. Do not wait.

No: Chloramphenicol is a very old antibiotic that isn't used anymore, for good reason; there is a rare chance it can cause aplastic anemia.  Don't risk it, go see your dentist!

Absolutely: If you had an infection anywhere else in your body wouldn't it cause the adjacent lymph nodes to swell?  You have an active infection.  It's probably causing bone destruction.  Be thankful it doesn't hurt, but this could change in the blink of an eye.  The bacteria, spreading through your blood stream, can affect other organ systems.  Call your Dentist for an emergency appointment.

Get treated: The risk of what? Infection? If their is an abscess, then there is already an infection and it needs to be treated?  If the absolute neutrophil count (anc) is low, then there is a risk of bacteria spreading in the blood and prophylactic antibiotics should be used.  However, an abscess needs to get taken care of.  Dental issues are under recognized sources of problems in cancer patients.

: Abscess = infection. "Boil"= draining abscess. You either have periodontal disease, a non-vital or fractured tooth.  No home remedies, see a dentist to be cured either by extraction, root canal therapy, or periodontal treatment.

Maybe : Patients undergoing chemotherapy need to visit the dentist every three months as the teeth and jaw bone can suffer effects from chemo.  Please have your daughter seen by a dentist to treat abcess because her immune system may not be as strong since she has undergone chemo.  Dental abcess can be life threatening if untreated especially for patients undergoing chemotheraphy.

Drainage: If the abscess is large enough, it will need to be drained along with antibiotics. One problem is that the infection can easily spread along nerves and blood vessels. From the gums there is ready access to the brain and other sensitive structures. It is thought that king tut died of an oral abscess that spread to his brain. Don't delay, see you doc right away!
