Depends: For the surgery you are typically unconscious, so you do not feel any pain-- until you awake.  Then it depends heavily on if the teeth were impacted and how severely.  Also, you need to discuss with the oral surgeon your seizure issues and make sure it is addressed with the anesthesiologist.

is it advisable to extract the front teeth of patients with epilepsy/seizures?

No: They still need to function and they still need to maintain confidence they already have a compromised life style, i don't think it has to be compounded.  You she never put anything in their mouth during the seizure any way.  Trauma to tissues can be managed afterward.  Ask the patient if thats what they want.

i am taking tablets for seizures. i took eptoin 100 mg twice a day, but due to its side effects like over growth of jaw in my teeth my doctor prescribed levipil 500 mg. now my doubt is whether both these tablets are equal bcoz the dosage differs?

Discuss with ur doc: Medications differ &amp; standard dosing is set  by research. Just because one is listed as 100 mg &amp; the other 500 mg does not mean they are not equal in effectiveness. Dose amounts are set at the lowest quantity that provides the desired effect.

Never heard of: As a periodontist for a long time I have never heard that.  However, you need to see a neurologist for the seizures and see a periodontist for the periodontal problems and a dentist for the abscessed tooth..

i've been seizures free for 4years but still on medication until now. is there any risk of inhaling prosthetic crown for my rct molar tooth?

Accepted Answer

Highly unlikely: If your dentist takes appropriate precautions, it is highly unlikely that you would swallow your crown during the placement procedure, even if you were to have a seizure. Once in place, it is not meant to come off easily so there is no fear of swallowing it afterwards. A crown will only fall off by itself if something is really wrong, so make sure you keep up with your routine visits.

if i have panic attacks thinking about seizures would i freak out with laughing gas for pulling a wisdom tooth?

Typically NO: The anesthesia used for dental procedure is usually fast acting.  Comes on quick, wears off quick. If you are overthinking the procedure, you can still have a panic attack.  So, how about something relaxing (massage, yoga, exercise...Whatever relaxes you) before the procedure.

See doctor in person: If you are randomly passing out or there is a concern for seizures then you need to be seen by a physician in person. You will need a comprehensive evaluation and workup that we cannot provide to you online.

woke up with chewed tongue and side of mouth. last mri clear. this has happened before but could it be more seizures?

This could b a: sign of more seizures.Any muscle tenderness/soreness?Discus with your Neurologist.May be time for another EEG,drug level blood tests,or med change.Good luck
