are there any alternative drug treatments to plavix (clopidogrel) for stroke from both carotid artery50%blockages which don't  cause adverse effects of gi bleeding?

Not really: All medications used after an ischemic stroke (cholesterol plaque rupture causing an interruption in blood flow) are treated with blood thinners. Some people are more sensitive to certain ones, so if you've had a GI bleed while on Plavix (clopidogrel), (clopidogrel) then talk to your neurologist. Plavix (clopidogrel) is usually the best, but start with aspirin 182 mg daily. If you still have strokes, then Aggrenox is the next step up.

my brother was prescribe cephalexin because of a cut that required stitches. is it safe for him? he suffers from uc and had a total proctocolectomy with ileostomy surgery. would it cause any adverse effects on gi track and small intestine?

: Discuss with your GI specialist whether a probiotic with the course of antibiotics is advisable. In general, the probiotic promotes gut health. Antibiotics change the gut flora and are associated potentially with GI upset.

is it okay to drink 6 to 8 cups of green tea a day (sugarless). does it have any adverse effects on my body?

Most recommend: limiting to 5 cups of green tea per day. Overdose of Green Tea (usually extract) may lead to irritability, insomnia, irregular or rapid heart rate, muscle twitching, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, liver damage, trouble breathing, dizziness, fever, confusion, hallucinations, diuresis, seizures, loss of consciousness &amp; even death.

Yes: A gastrointestinal cocktail, known as a GI cocktail, is a generic term for a mixture of liquid antacid, viscous lidocaine, and an anticholinergic primarily used to treat dyspepsia. It is used to see if the pain is caused by acid reflux or if there are other causes. It is often one of the first things that a patient gets in the er if they are having abdominal/chest pain.

Depends on what for: Generally "GI cocktail" is antacid/anti-gas/numbing medicines. Taken when symptoms e.g. heartburn/dyspepsia occur, often to distinguish causes but not as long-term remedy - thus when taken depends more on when sxs than necessarily timing of meals. Would require MD followup esp w Gastroenterologist if persistent to assess causes. Happy to review the details in consultation, if further question

See below: Carafate (sucralfate) slurry (on empty stomach) forms a "patch" on ulcers. Ppis (prilosec, prevacid, et al) block acid secretion; lower acidity allows uncers to heal. Combo of 2 meds should heal faster.

If you experience indigestion frequently, you may have an underlying condition that should be addressed. Your doctor can determine the best treatment plan for you.

Well: I think you need to resolve your issue since it seems to reoccur. Now find yourself a doctor and then you go from there. The er is not really an appropriate place for your issue but you do need to have a doctor so you can get a diagnosis and get the matter resolved so you do not suffer anymore

Antifubgal: The GI cocktail is non specific term to describe a bunch of meds together. You would have to ask your doctor for clarification. It may have Antifungal meds for the thrush

i swllowed glass earlier tday. went to er. they took an xray but saw nothing. gave me gi cocktail. but stomach is in so much pain. what do i do?!

Go back to ER: I'm not sure if glass will show up on an x-ray. Regardless, if you are in severe pain i would return to the er. If possible bring your parent with you to act as your advocate.
