i have a history of cholesteatoma in my rt ear with a mastoidectomy & an ear tube. i have been having problems with granulation tissue in my middle ear & now i have swelling inside my rt cheek near the jaw joint. can ear problems spread to the mouth?

Near to the Ear: Inflammation can certainly affect several local systems simultaneously.  However, middle ear issues would not extend directly to the mouth as described.  The parotid gland is a salivary gland in this region and often the culprit for many problems.  Dry mouth can lead to salivary stones which are sediments that block the duct, and lead to swelling of the gland.  If persistent, seek eval to be sure.

It happens: I have pulled out food, beads, paper &amp; other foreign objects from ears. If the kid cooperates you can sometimes do it at home but often it takes someone with the tools &amp; skill to do so.Sometimes they must be sedated to remove these if they can't be still.

Get help: I recommend that you get some help with this rather than trying to remove it yourself. You can go to urgent care or your primary care physician for help with this.

Unlikely: Whole anything is possible I would be skeptical that this could be happening. This sounds like something your physician should evaluate you for it see if this can be clarified. As much of a problem that you're having this sounds like you may need to be seen in consultation with other specialists

Blood in ear: If it is an isolated incident and only one ear had blood which cleared after wiping, it could be traumatic.. if it recurs, then please see your doctor to determine the source of the bleeding and treatment. If both ears have blood, seek immediate medical attention. Please use Either the wisp of cotton or gauze or corner of soft wash cloth, not  Qtips or anything. Else.

Parotid tumor: If this is in front of your ear.. It could be a tumor of the parotid gland. See your local ent.

if a small lymph node behind ear (about 6mm) is fixed to underlying tissues and it does not grow in size, would be reactive or only cancerous?

Depends: Depends on duration of mass. Usually fixed is more problematic than movable. Best bet if mass is present longer than 2 weeks would be assessment by ENT doc.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. You may watch the node about every two weeks, if it doubles in size, additional nodes become enlarged, there is pain, fever or weight loss, you should see your doctor.

Ear infection: Prussacs space is the area of thin tympanic membrane at the neck of the malleus. In early infections it is an area of retraction. Over time  inflammatory tissue can expand and cause chronic problems in the ear. Office exam with microscope can easily monitor that area without the necessity of CT scan. Rarely chronic drainage and infection marks the development of cholestetoma
