Sputum gram stain: Sputum gram stain testing is not done nearly as often as it once was, since we now know it usually isn't very helpful in diagnosis. The white blood cells (pus cells) suggest infection like bronchitis or pneumonia -- but it's usually possible to judge this just by appearance of the sputum (e.g., yellow or green mucus). Gram pos cocci could be entirely normal bacteria. Discuss with your doctor.

Cult refers to "culture" which is where the tissue or fluid sample is placed in a special medium that allows any organisms that may have infected the tissue to grow.  This allows clear identification of which if any organisms are causing infection.

Need more info: This organism can be difficult to isolate since they are facultative anaerobes, but the Gram's stain of clinical materials is usually very very suggestive, depending upon the site from which the specimen was obtained. This is a common cause of osteomyelitis of the bones of the jaw. Routine cultures are not a good way to look for molds and other fungi except for yeast-like fungi. Good luck.

No.: From your description, it sounds like the diagnosis was normal flora present. The bacilli and cocci with few WBCs are just describing that. Normal flora is a mixed population like that described. When one has an infection, the causative organism will predominate and will likely be the only thing present. There will also usually be numerous WBCs as these are your cells that fight infection.

Why did you get a sputum culture?  Check in with the doctor who ordered it

Gram positive cocci: You need to do a gram stain to see gram positive organisms like Staphylococci which are gram positive. S. epidermidis is coagulate negative while Staph.aureus coagulate positive.
