Not common: The only thing i can think of would be a mislabeled specimen, a clerical error on the lab report, or a contaminant in the lab.

Usually 3-4 weeks: It is generally recommended to retest in 3-4 weeks after treatment but it is quite likely that testing earlier would also be reliable. It can take 1-3 weeks for signs of infection to show after initial exposure, so a negative test at 3 weeks would be confirm cure.  Be sure to use first voided urine (if doing urine testing)  as diluted urine can give false negative tests results.

if i was given a 1-dose rocephin shot and 7-day doxycycline but was not infected with clymydia or gonorrhea and a week later tested positive for trichomonous could this cause a false positive test result for syphilis and/or herpes 1 and 2?

: Your doctors obviously suspected gonorrhea and/or chlamydia or they would not have prescribed those antibiotics. Trichomonas can cause the same symptoms, so that test result should note surprising. (I hope you have now been treated for trich, probably with metronidazole.) Trichomonas does not cause false results for syphilis or herpes tests.

Two possibilities: Two possibilities: (1) the female got it from someone else, or (2) they didn't test the male the right way.  A urine test only tells you whether the male has gonorrhea in the urethra (penis).  Rectal and throat swabs are necessary to find out whether he has it in one of those locations.

Gonorrhea: You should absolutely be treated for Gonorrhea. See your regular Dr for an exam, culture and prescription for antibiotics or shot. The disease when caught early is easily treatable and recovery is within 1-2 weeks. Use a condom during the treatment period and until your Dr states that you are cured.

See below: The risk of transmission of n.Gonorrhoeae from an infected woman to the urethra of her male partner is 20% per episode of unprotected sexual intercourse increasing to 70% after 4 or more exposures.  The risk of male to female transmission is approx.60% per contact.  Did you have relations with another person?

Once the infection: Is eradicated in your body - it should be gone. Did you have sexual relations with anyone else?  Were you fully compliant with treatment?

Gonorrhea: Women may harbor this organism in an asymptomatic fashion for lengthy time periods, so pinpointing when this occurred may be difficult.  The important thing for you is to be tested fro all other stds and to engage only in protected sex in the future.   Good luck.

If the individual : Has gonorrhea it should be promptly treated. A sexual history isn't required when applying to medical school.

Accepted Answer

Sexual transmission: You both need to be treated and tested for other sexually transmitted infections. Then marriage counseling is probably in order to help clear up the communication problem. Good luck.
