I doubt it: The web is now full of anti-gluten militants who believe that everyone is well-advised to adopt the gluten-free diet. The only real science is that alopecia areata patients are more likely to have gluten sensitivity but the hair doesn't grow back; I suspect it's autoimmune diseases occurring together, as they very often do. Recognize there's a lot of emotion and zealotry here &amp; some unknowns too.

Hairy Gluten : To make it simple, if one has gluten sensitivity, the may have difficulty with normal absorption of essential proteins, minerals, and vitamins.  This could in turn cause hair loss.  But there are many other things that can cause hair loss in a 16 year old female and if it persists, a doctor needs to evaluate.

See doctor: You need to consult your doctor to get checked out.  Although you may well have gluten intolerance, this needs be confirmed and managed.

Possibly: Alopecia and Celiac and two autoimmune diseases. Avoidance of gluten is essential with celiac because ingestion of gluten will increase your risk for gastric cancers. Although unlikely, it is possible that once your immune systems calms with avoidance of gluten your alopecia will improve

i am experiencing symptoms of hair loss, cold sensitivity, fatigue. tsh  came back at 2.39. is it still possible i am having thyroid issues?

Yes, it is possible: Tsh measures pituitary function.  You need more extensive thyroid hormone testing- with free T3 (liothyronine) and free t4.  You could have a relatively normal TSH but if your thyroid hormone levels are low then there might be a thyroid condition.  Also,  a study published last month showed that TSH &gt;2.5 (yours is close) was linked to metabolic syndrome (which can cause hair loss, etc.). So get tested for that.

tsh historically 4.5-4.7. recent tsh was 6.02 uiu/ml. primary care md repeated the tsh and added t4 free. results = tsh 3.56 and t4 0.96. i have severe fatigue, muscle aches, sensitivity to cold + some hair loss. could this be hypothyroidism?

scalp tenderness, dandruff and hair loss (really really noticeable all over thinning). just started using ketoconazole shampoo for about a week and still have the same symptoms other than dandruff. not sure if i should start fin and minoxidil?

: The first thing to do is to do a family tree for early make or female pattern baldness or hair thinning. It runs in some families and gallops in others.  And treatments don’t help much. Would be good to see a Dr in person who can check for rare/treatable cause of hair loss.
