Licorice: Depends upon the person. There are significant differences in sensitivity, absorption, metabolism, and elimination between individuals. The response is more pronounced if you already have high blood pressure and less so in individuals with normal blood pressure.

: Beet juice is NOT the answer for hypertension, which potentially could be handled partially with diet, but far safer to be controlled day in and day out with antihypertensive medication.  You need to contact your doctor and fully discuss options and management.  Remember that hypertension has been termed "the silent killer".

i recently had to cold turkey quit my blood pressure medicine because i signed up with a new health insurance, i am having to find a new doctor, see them first then have my bp med rewrote. my question is, is beet root extract good for this issue?

: Beet root extract would not be a sufficient replacement for prescription blood pressure medicine. However, some studies have shown beet root supplementation to have a modest effect on lowering blood pressure. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23596162/) Other studies have revealed conflicting results. Your best bet is to get your prescription blood pressure medication.

Not a good idea: Taking an herbal medication without knowing the purity and all the possible side effects can make you worse. Sertraline should work well but if not consult with your physician to either change the dose or change the medication.

Essential HTN: His "gas burps " are most likely from gerd - gastroesophagela reflucx disease. But his high BP is essential hypertension.

Not usually, unless: Your vision is only affected by extremely high blood pressure, when the effects of high BP affect the retinal vasculature ;/or optic nerve (malignant hypertension). Furthermore retinal blood vessels can be blocked causing loss of vision. Too low of BP usually causes people to feel faint ; pass out. Too low of BP has been thought to contribute to worsening of optic nerve blood flow. Goal bp: 115/70.

BP meds & ED: First of all, high bp, especially high systolic bp, is not good for your erectile function. If you are older, this is especially so. Diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide and spironolatone as well as beta-blockers such as atenolol can cause erection problems. There are some BP meds that may help you with erectile function, including arbs such as losartan and Alpha blockers such as doxazosin.
