Eye progressive weak: Progression of myopia ie nearsightedness has been the subject ofuch research in the past and of late. See an optometric physician for suggestions and recommendations.

i've been weaned off geodon (ziprasidone) and haven't had any in one week. i'm feeling more normal each day, but how long is withdrawal period? migraines galore!

Need more details: Migraines should be controlled unless to fast of a wean or something else going on. Have you had migraines in the past? Follow up with a detailed consult or see a doctor.

recurring uti ..2 rounds of antibiotics  within last  6 mos . cranberry juice galore   ! should i ask for stronger or targeted antibiotic ?

Urology evaluation: If you are having recurrent UTIs it would be good to know other details about your history and other symptoms.For ex., if you are diabetic, having urinary incontinence, among other issues that could make you prone to develop those.If you keep getting recurrent infections then I would suggest a visit to the Urologist for further testing. Cranberry has not been consistently proven to be beneficial.

Immune deficiency: See the doctor for blood tests for an immune deficiency.  Allergies and reflux can also cause recurrent ear infections. Exposure to tobacco smoke is a common cause of recurrence.

Yes: Due to their impulsivity as well as their hyperactivity, especially talking in class and wandering around the classroom, children with adhd are more likely to wind up on detention

Yes: They both have advantages and disadvantages.  To learn about the risks and benefits to make a decision you should consult your doctor.

why is ritalin (methylphenidate) better?

Accepted Answer

Methylphenidate &: Amphetamine are the two stimulants used for adhd. In large studies , their safety & efficacy are about the same. However, individual responses vary. For that person, one may work better once the dose is titrated for optimal effect, have fewer side effects , or be less costly.

antidepressant for fiction writer: might wellbutrin (bupropion) be better than ssris because of less emotional flattening and more motivation/drive?

Depends: You're correct that wellbutrin (bupropion) (or buproprion) is more "activating" but that does not mean that it is effective for everyone. It is generally well tolerated and has few adverse effects, but especially if you have severe depression or bipolar spectrum, you may need to add another mood stabilizing agent. Talk to your psychiatrist before adjusting your medications!

Good Question: The answer is: maybe, maybe not. If you are receiving good benefit from focalin, (dexmethylphenidate) then there is no particular reason to change. If you aren't, or if you are having problems with side effects, then it is reasonable to explore other options. As a rule, physicians usually like to stick with a medicine if it is being helpful and well tolerated.
