If exercise approved: People with diabetes are generally advised to be physically active to help control their blood sugar. It is also usually advised to do moderate exercise if you're pregnant. But before you start, talk to your doctor about what kind of exercise is best for you and how much you should do so your blood sugar is stable. Low-impact aerobic activity, like walking, is usually recommended during pregnancy.

Depends: Depends on what kind of sugar test (blood test, oral glucose tolerance test, glucometer tests?), how high the blood sugar tests went and what you were doing at the time (fasting, 1 hr after eating, 2 hr after eating?).

i have been diagnosed as gestational diabetic, but it is diet controlled, does this automatically make me a high risk birth?

DM and Pregnancy: Gestational DM is considered high risk.  First step to treatment is starting with a program of medical supervised nutritional therapy and self-monitoring of blood sugars. Insulin should be initiated if optimal blood glucose levels are not achieved with the Nutrition.  These steps greatly improve perinatal outcome and course.  You should also have a good exercise program as well.  Good Luck

More risky: Gestational diabetes does increase the risk for a c-section, a difficult vaginal delivery, and other complications during pregnancy. It's very important she keep her blood sugar in good control, and that can dramatically lessen the risk of any complications. Good luck!

?vitamin deficiency: There are sensors in the brainstem that require vitamin b1 and/or magnesium. If they do not function properly they act as though the person is at high altitude. A signal goes to the kidney initiating secretion of erythropoietin, a hormone that tells the bone marrow to make more red cells and hemoglobin. We know that diabetics excrete a lot of vitamin b1 in the urine and become deficient.

No and Yes: Having gestational diabetes does not mean that you will have to have a cesarean section.  Lots of gestional diabetics deliver vaginally.  Important to control your blood sugar because uncontrolled diabetes can lead to large babies which do need a cesarean.  All gestational diabetics on medication typically deliver by 39 weeks or undergo induction at 39 weeks.  One week prior to one's due date.

Yes: Increased risks for chilhood obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and lipids problems.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: It definitely sounds like you need to be watched carefully and worked up to be sure you have not developed type 2 diabetes.  If you have and diet is not controlling it, then treatment may be indicated . Some may argue that treatment should be started and not try diet control anyway.

sometimes my finger tips feel numb.... should i be weary? a bit about myself? - i am pre hypertension and i was a gestational diabetic.

There : There are many causes of numbness in the finger tips including spinal cord or nerve compression in the spine, nerve compression in the elbow or wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) or sick nerves (peripheral neuropathy).  The cause of the numbness and associated symptoms of pain, weakness, clumsiness, walking or bowel and bladder problem may make the numbness more worrisome. Numbness on it's own is usually less of a problem for most people.  I recommend discussing the numbness with your primary doctor.

32  weeks pregnant. sore neck and intermediate tingling all around head. lots of anxiety! on labetolol daily and zoloft (sertraline). gestational diabetic?

Accepted Answer

Don't know: Nothing you mention suggests gestational diabetes, except that you are pregnant == and every pregnant woman should be screened fully for possible gestational diabetes. I'm sure you were checked earlier in your pregnancy and other lab has been drawn since that time. Check w/your doctor.
