Be sure to get re-tested 6-12 weeks after delivery.

The one you can control is weight, so work with your doctor if it's too high.

Yes: Gestational diabetes is the name for any diabetes diagnosed during pregnancy, even if it was present before. 70% women will develop diabetes within 10 years, so it's very important to repeat a glucose tolerance test or get an hba1c test about 6-12 after delivery, and please follow up with your medical doctor each year. If diabetes is detected, meds/exercise can delay complications for some.

will prediabetes prior to pregnancy lead to development of gestational diabetes during pregnancy for sure? if so, is it harder to revert afterwards?

High risk: Pregnancy does increase resistance to insulin, so if prediabetes beforehand, high risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy. Those with gestational diabetes history also have higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes after pregnancy. Please consider discussing this with both an OB and endocrinologist before getting pregnant to make sure you're in best condition for pregnancy.

: Your mom had gestational diabetes when she had you and that clinical event has no causal relationship to your current endocrinologic problem. You postprandial blood sugar is NORMAL and I am not sure why you think you have type 1 diabetes mellitus and what the symptoms are. To diagnose diabetes you either have fasting blood sugar, FBS, above 125 x 2 times or one FBS of 125 and HbA1c above 6.4.

Maybe: Its a bit early for gestational diabetes and certainly things in your diet can change urine odor as well.  If the sweet smell is diabetes related your OB will probably note glucosuria on your next urine dip in the office.
