Salary alone.: University-employed professors are salaried and thus have no incentive to perform additional procedures unless they are clearly indicated. My understanding is that some private universities may give year-end bonuses on productivity, but most public ones do not.

Personally, i doubt that you will find someone this way, but good luck!  if you are not a dentist, the best way to find a good dentist is to ask family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, colleagues or other health care professionals to recommend someone they are happy with. Best is relative.: Good medical schools and great doctors in every country.  Generalizing possible, but misleading.  Most medical education takes place during internship / residency. Best education is one that prepares you for practice in the society and culture you live in. Japanese schools are great for japanese physicians and likewise for the other countries.

Hard to say.: This might not ever have an answer since many of the members might have died of other causes, and had cancer and not known it.  Also, techniques of diagnosing were not as advenced so it might have gone undiagnosed in several members.  In so far as getting cancer from the project itself, this answer may not be known for the above reasons and because so many more people were indirectly involved.
