If you are trying to get high off of xanax, (alprazolam) then i would suggest you seek substance abuse rehabilitation.

Unlikely: Read ingredients carefully.
Most generics are very equivalent if from good manufacturers and pharmacies.

i have obsessive thoughts about my health. my pcp gave me the generic xanax (alprazolam) but i don't feel like it's doing anything. how can i stop these thoughts?

Other choices: I'm not a psychiatrist but i can think of some better choices, especially for somebody like yourself -- you're bright, you found healthtap, you realize these thoughts aren't really yours, and i'll bet anybody a short course of cognitive-behavioral therapy could teach you to short-circuit them. Failing this, obsessive often benefit from very low doses of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

If you must, prob'ly: Meds dispensed by a pharmacy will have an expiration date of 1 year after the date of dispensing. It stands to reason that not every drug will lose its potency/"self destruct" exactly one year after you purchase it. I usually recommend that if a pt has leftover meds, and no new rx to fill, you can certainly continue to use the expired med until you do get a new rx. If effective, then you've saved$.

It depends.: Opiate pain meds and benzodiazepines are both sedatives. They can cause drowsiness, incoordination and dizziness due to low blood pressure. Although you may be taking the recommended or average doses for both meds, you should check to see how they affect you and use caution when driving or operating other machinery. Also do not drink alcohol while you are taking them.
