Dates: Dates are a great source of fiber and will help with increasing bulk in the stool.  Be sure to drink plenty of water to help things move along.  Prunes do not have any other special gas production or alleviation effects that I am aware of.

Accepted Answer

Gas: It can be, or from food intolerance or lactose intolerance. After a GI bug such as an entero or norwalk virus, it may take a week or 2 to regain the lactase enzyme denuded off the bowel villi in the gut. Taking in dairy during this healing period can give you lots of gas and bloating, even diarrhea . It is temporary. There are other causes for gas. Consult a gastroenterologist for evaluation.

Avoid gassy foods: Most intestinal gas is produced by bacteria that break down our food. Foods that contain undigestible fiber or carbs (including many fruits & vegetables) will increase gas. Avoid sweets, flour, doughy foods, bread, pasta, chips, creamy &dairy products. Activated charcoal caplets is one way to help temporarily. 
Some patients have more specific problems & should consider checking with a physician.

See your doctor: That's a general stimulation of the GI tract.  If it continues beyond a day or two, i'd see my doctor and get a work up to find out what's going on.

Fodmapa:  gas (air) taken in either from swallowing or from fermentation of sugars in the diet. The stomach and large intestine overlap in the vicinity you are referring to. Google  low FODMAP diet ( fermentable Oligo-Di-Monosaccharides and polyols). The most well known is lactose.  Colon bacteria ferment the sugars and create gas and fluid. gas distends the colon (sigmoid) and causes pain.

Perhaps: Excess gas can certainly be seen with ibs. Foods high in fiber can lead to excessive gas as well (beans, broccoli , cabbage, etc).

Malabsorption?: your constant hunger, diarrhea, and gassiness sound like you may be malabsorbing. Your doctor can determine the possibility of your having a condition like celiac disease.

High Fiber Diets: Gas is a sign of colon health. It is a sign of good high fiber diets.  This is not a medical condition.
