had laparoscopic surgery for appendix removal on december 6th. still has constant pain behind belly button (one incision point) that has been expanding throughout stomach. very painful when touched. recently did ultrasound, other options?

: What did the operating surgeon think about your symptoms when he/she examined you? Do you have any digestive tract symptoms? Scar abnormal?  Any signs of hernia or adhesions? Chronic abscess ruled out? I would ask if further testing,such as CT scan or MRI, would be helpful.

A Few Simple Rules: The most common cause of gas pains after abdominal surgery is GI dysfunction secondary to inflammation in the abdomen+/-anesthesia.The best thing to do is to limit narcotic pain medicine, which is known to worsen the gas pains.Also, don't push food until your appetite is normal. Lastly, try and be somewhat active--it's best not to stay in bed all day (for many reasons).I hope you feel better soon.

Maybe: But don't guess. Call your doctor to get instructions and make an appointment to see your obstetrician ; your surgeon as soon as possible. Needs a full physical exam that cannot be done here.

Laparoscopy is fine: Just because an appendix is ruptured doesn't mean that laparoscopic approach must be abandoned. Actually, the scope gives me a much better view of the soilage and contamination.One can alway convert to open if surgery is not progressing well. Now, with rupture the game changes - drain is placed, antibiotics are given longer, and the hospital stay goes from two hours to a few days. Good luck.

i have been getting left shoulder pain again 6 weeks after laparoscopic appendectomy for a ruptured appendix. is it normal to still be feeling this?

It is: unusual for referred shoulder pain to persist more than a few days after a laparoscopic procedure.  You might be developing something serious, such as abscess.  Please re-consult your surgeon for specific recommendation.

Yes it is: yes it is normal. make sure you eat yogurt, and banana, and apply heat pad to the abdomen.most likely the diarrhea secondary to the antibiotic use after surgery, the gas is normal, most likely related to the pain medication.
so far everything you described is normal.

how do you get rid of gas pains after a gallbladder removal?

Will resolve: U describe a mild form of ileus, in which intestinal motility is decreased, usually due to inactivity and prescribed narcotics for pain.  While this ileus usually resolves in a few days, if u walk, drink enough fluids, minimize or eliminate the use of narcotic pain pills, then this will speed your recovery.  If u are unable to hold down fluids, have fever or  worsening abdominal pain, see ur md.
