started reading why we get fat by gary taubes. seems unhealthy to eat so much protein. and knowledge about the books content or recommendations of another book about  a healthy diet?

Avoid processed food: Simple sugars and processed carbs should be avoided or limited. This includes any flour product. The fine grind makes absorption quick, and spikes your blood sugar which increases Insulin and promotes weight gain. Good fats such as olive oil and coconut oil are fine in sensible amounts. Eat a rainbow of organic vegetables and max 3-4 oz protein with each meal 5 hours apart.

: I can only speculate on the answer.  Obviously, we have been researching cancer for a long time.  Yet, we've made only humble progress with many types of cancer.  (By the way, we need to realize that "cancer" is a generic name that describes many very different types.)  I do remain optimistic that, in time we will continue to progress and hopefully find cures; exactly how long, is difficult to say

Exercise!: Nice & easy, no rush. Rome wasn't built in a day. Talk to your family physician to make sure you're healthy enough to start exercising. Then start off with just a bit, heck, even 30 seconds or a walk around your house is more than most. Then do 1 minute or walk twice around house tomorrow.  And 2 minutes or 3 times around the following day. You get the idea. Do more & more as tolerated. Good luck!

To gain one pound in a week, eat 500 calories each day over what you normally eat, and keep your activity level about the same. But eat nutritious food, not "junk." think healthy smoothies, yogurt. Adding a bowl of oatmeal each day is a start.

Practice!: Also, consider asking your doc if you have add/adhd. If so, there are some medications that can be helpful to some people. Check out add/adhd websites to learn some coping techniques to help you organize so that you can concentrate.

Nutrition & thyroid: For someone who's been thin all his/her life, thank your luck stars for a "fast metabolism". If you're concerned about your inability to gain weight, get a referral to & speak w/nutritionist to make sure you're eating enough calories & protein. Also check w/your family doc to make sure your thyroid is normal as is your gut & immune system. Unexplained weight loss is another animal completely.
