It also can be associated with reflux, sinus infections, or infected rhinitis.  Oral hygiene problems or halitosis.  See if your physician can refer you to an ENT for a check up.

Fungal Foe: First and foremost, proper identification of the fungus in question is necessary for proper treatment.  Scalp infections can be difficult to treat and usually require an oral medication for several months along with topical therapy in the form of a shampoo and/or topical cream.  Light therapy has also been touted to help, but results are mixed.  Recalcitrant cases can suggest an immunity problem.
