Confusing question: Actually you did not ask a clear question.The tests you mention relate to a possible thyroid problem that can present without any clear symptoms & may be suspected by results of the 1st or 2nd newborn screen or other finding. Since the disorder can produce unrecognized damage  long before it shows symptoms, pro-active testing is standard care.

tsh is 6.8 but before starting meds, i want to do a ft3/ft4 test. can i take in the evening around 430-5pm or should this be taken in the a.m. too?

Synthroid (thyroxine) in AM: The taking of thyroid med or testing in PM and evaluation its effect is NOT necessary.

Is FT4 correct?: Your TSH appears normal. Did you have a typp with the ft4, as a value of 15 is an order of magnitude too high. 1.5 would be normal. Another possibility is that the 15 is a T4 not a ft4.  Either way, it's hard to tell but probably normal. Check w/your doctor.

tsh=10.7, ft4=11.5, is it okay to start levo in dec '14 since i'm going abroad for holidays and can't test tsh regularly there? i'm 60 y.o./healthy.

Early hypothyroid: Don't know your "normal" values, but that TSH appears to be high. The free T4 is probably actually a total T4, and appears normal.  This suggests you are in the early stages of getting hypothyroid. You may not feel it now, but you will in time, perhaps while you are abroad. I would recommend getting started on levothyroxine now, and getting checked in a couple of months, or when you get back.

Looks normal.: You aren't telling me the normal ranges for these results, but as a thyroid specialist who looks at these types of numbers every day, they look normal.  Ask your doctor to go over the results with you to be sure.

Thyroid: Numbers alone aren't enough to work with. Do you have hypothyroidism or thyroiditis, or post thyroidectomy or none of above. Based on ft3 and ft4, i would expect your TSH to be lower. It depends on your clinical picture, lots of variables influence these #s, incl. Meds, other disorders, hormones , etc.Do you take thyroid meds?

Low T3 (liothyronine) and T4: It sounds as if your TSH is trying to improve your T3 (liothyronine) and T4. If that is so you most likely will need to start taking low doses of T4. Check with your doctor.

U R hypothyroid: Hi. Those labs demonstrate you have subclinical hypothyroidism: your thyroid is failing, but with a little more "push" from the pituitary (elevated TSH), it's still putting out normal T4 and T3 (liothyronine) amounts. Your TPO &amp;/or thyroglobulin autoantibodies are probably elevated - Hashimoto's. I would treat you. No sense waiting until it's over to start. Treatment is cheap, easy, &amp; perfect. Good luck!
