Muscle tears: There are many reasons for frequent muscle tears including technique issues related to the movement or lack of flexibility.  Sometimes imbalances in strength can lead to frequent muscle tears.  For example if your quadricep muscles (front of the thigh) are much stronger compared to your hamstring muscles (back of the thigh), tearing occurs more frequently.

Rest : Back muscles take time to heal. Acutely you need to rest, use ice, and an anti-imflammatory drug like Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen). Once the acute pain subsides heat can be used and gentle stretching. You may also benefit from sessions with a therapist.

Pain: It will hurt! immediately ice the area for 20-30 minutes and do this 2 or 3 times the rest of the day. Turmeric is a safe and helpful anti-inflammatory, i suggest 400-500mg twice daily of a product standardized to at least 95% curcuminoids.

Tearing muscle: Tearing a muscle involves ripping apart muscle fibers in a muscle bundle, along with tearing associated vascular supply and nerve supply.  It hurts due to the trauma of the injury causing irritation and inflammation in the muscle, nerve and vascular structure, along with the swelling and bleeding into the tissues.

MRI is best: Mri is a very good way to look for both direct and indirect evidence of soft tissue injuries.  Ultrasound can detect major injuries in some areas, but is not quite as good.
