i fractured my fourth metatarsal over 7 months ago and to this day i still feel pain, soreness and stiffness everyday, is this normal?

Foot pain: No it is abnormal;so go get a physical exam and possibly an Xray as well as appropriate therapy/advice based on findings

good day. my daughter is 2,5. a shelf fell on her foot at school. xrays on wednesday showed a possible fracture at the base of the fourth metatarsal. no cast was given. should we be concerned of the extreme swelling and bruising still present?

Yes: An ortho specialist will be needed to assess and follow up. That is clearly needed as to ruling in or out a possible fracture and having the right treatment in place. Sometimes repeat imaging is needed as well to assess for displacement. Her pediatrician should be able to coordinate in case an ortho referral was not made yet.

i have foot pain on the lateral side of my foot around the fourth and fifth metatarsals when i'm pushing off. walking barefoot or on flip flops relieves it while wearing sneakers aggravates it. could it be some kind of neuroma or stress fracture?

Yes: It could be either that you describe.  You should have it examined and probably have an x-ray taken to rule out fracture.

More info needed: Are you asking if you broke your 5th metatarsal bone?  You will need to see a specialist (podiatrist or orthopedist) who will order an x-ray (usually done in office) to determine and to assist in making the correct treatment decision.  Depending on severity of the fracture treatment may  consist of a walking boot, cast, and/or surgery if necessary.

Foot: The metatarsals are the long bones in the midfoot which end just before the toe begins.  The first metatarsal is the bone which attaches the big toe.  The distal portion of the bone is just before the joint where the big toe begins.
