No: Herpes causes ulcerations.  If you have a foul discharge you may have bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas, gonorrhea or chlamydia.  You should be checked.

Bacterial vaginosis?: Contrary to populat belief, vaginal yeast infection does not cause strong odor. The main cause of foul vaginal odor is bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. Discharge can be present but usually isn't. Odor tends to be especially strong after unprotected sex. BV isn't an STD, but STDs are more common in women with BV. Return to your doc or get 2nd opinion and STD tests.

Vaginal odor: Any condition that causes an increase in vaginal bacteria can result in a foul odor. This is because some of these bacteria produce chemicals that are quite offensive to humans sense of smell. Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Trich do not usually cause this, but BV does. Also foreign material such as retained toilet paper or parts of tampons can do this by increasing the bacterial count.

Treatment is with antibiotics.
