i've been having a lot of gas in the evening and i have a decrease in appetite. what could be wrong?

Insufficient data: If you mean by having gas burping then it is most likely a gastritis from food or a bacteria called H Pylori. Also possible is mild hepatitis. Unlikely, but possible, gallbladder.

Yes.: Involves the use of simethicone and a medication that can be prescribed by your pcp or gastroenterologist..

No: just burp him when he starts that and then go back to finishing that feeding.

Indigestion: You probably have some form of indigestion which can be from inflammation or infection. Don't worry, it has nothing to do with your intestinal width! Take some probiotics, yogurt and consume bland diet for a few days. See your GP if symptoms persist. Good luck

how long does it take when switching a babys formula for the old one to be completely out of the babys system switched from w/ iron to soy cuz bad gas?

About 5-7 Days: Although each child is different, it is quite common to see some GI changes with switching formulas - especially over the next week. I would make sure to give some time to allow the child to adjust to a new formula before making a decision on switching again - at least 5-7 days.  The child's digestive system needs time to adjust to the new properties of a different formula.

my bm has decreased to only about once a week. i have excessive gas and pain associated with that every once in awhile. should i let my doctor know?

YES: You are constipated and that is not healthy. See your doctor. You can also stop dairy (it can be constipating) and gluten (can cause gas and abdominal pain) and increase your p fruits (peach pear plum prune pineapple papaya pumpkin pomegranate and peas) and see if that helps.

Gas pains: Yes you may need to change the formula.  Speak to your doctor.

my 3 week old baby has a lot of gas. she only gives 1 bm a day. she is strictly formula fed. what could cause this? how can i help her?

Accepted Answer

Gas: Many babies have bowel movement patterns that differ from adults.   If it isn't firm, she should be ok.  I recommend a formula for sensitive tummies usually "brown down".  Also, probiotics can be very helpful.  Don't forget bicycling movement with legs, frequent burps, massage,  and slowly bending knees and bringing them into the tummy area.

my 3 months old formula and breastfed does not poo sometimes for 4 days and cries of discomfort. i don't give her water. what can i do to avoid gas?

She is normal: It can be normal for an infant not to have a bowel movement for 3-4 days at a time.  As long as it is soft, not hard, when it comes out.  And as long as she is gaining weight normally.  As long as she is not vomiting regularly.  You can keep her elevated, massage her tummy down, bicycle her legs, put her in warm water...these can help.  Burp her more regularly.  Gas drops sometimes help.

my 6week old is having v smelly runny poos v smelly gas and has been quite unsettled the last few days, not sleeping well? could this be his formula?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: If you have been using the same formula since baby was born and are mixing it the same way, it's unlikely it's his formula.  However, if something has changed, from formula type to the water you use to whether you use powder vs ready-to-feed, it could affect him.  As likely, though, is that he may have a little stomach bug . If vomits, use a feeding of pedialyte, but if persists, call your peddoc!
