Foot Drop Shoes: The only shoe type I have ever found useless for some of my patients with drop foot is some stable heel. Since it is hard to lift your foot past ankle neutral, the heel makes it easier to move from heel lift to propulsion. For a guy, probably cowboy boots would be the best, or dansko clog type shoes. Get an AFO!: An ankle foot orthosis with a dorsi flexion assist will allow you to walk in any shoes and not trip.  See a physiatrist or orthopedist who can prescribe this for you.

Shoes and foot drop: If there is a diagnosis of foot drop present, before a shoe recommendation is given, the patient must have the condition managed by bracing of the affected foot. Other treatments, including surgery may be available if warranted, but a thorough examination of the lower extremity must be done first by a podiatrist or foot and ankle specialist.

Need foot orthotic: The main thing is to visit your doctor and therapist for evaluation and orthotic prescription to help lift your foot up and avoid foot dragging and falls. Then use a shoe where you can comfortably fit the orthosis. www.otwithmd.com.

No: Absolutely not, there's no stability.  Even with a walker device to balance using both arms, it's unsafe and not recommended.

Try walking fast: Foot-drop entails a weakness of lifting up your foot usually due to a nerve problem. Over time you can develop a contracture of your achilles tendon which can limit your body's ability to lift the foot up once the strength of your muscles return. You may be walking better because you feel you are dragging your foot less. Concentrate on doing achilles stretching to keep your ankle supple.

Oh dear: If you have foot drop, wedges or heals are a bad idea because you have to strain at the knee to clear your  foot.  Try classy sports shoes with a rounded fore foot sole to roll smoothly over the weakness.  Please don't fall and cause more problems than foot drop.  Most people with 2/5 strength get bracing to avoid fatigue and night cramps.

Foot drop. : Foot drop can be a manifestation of potentially serious conditions. I would personally consider it as an emergency !

Initial steps: Would consider MRI of lumbar spines to R/O disc compression of L-5 nerve root, EMG to distinguish compression of sciatic or peroneal nerves, and based upon results perhaps series of blood studies looking for causation.  However, involvement of spinal cord or brain, for example Multiple Sclerosis, could also present this way, and MRI imaging would guide the way.

Climbing stairs.: Typically, there is an inability to lift the top part of you foot and toes upward toward your face. The toes tend to drag on the floor when walking. There may or may not be numbness along with the weakness on the top of the foot an toes.
