Drop foot: Ms is not the only cause of a drop foot  deformity. Muscle weakness is possibly from nerve damage which has many causes. You should research other symptoms of ms and the testing/treatments and talk to neurologist about any symptoms you have to help diagnose/ resolve problems. Consider other more urgent causes such as stroke or cva.

i have foot drop (not ms), it seems to get better, then worse, then better, is that the normal recovery? (b 12 deficiency/neuropathy)

Neuropathy: Foot drop recovery may or may not be steady. Although, i would not expect it to get better and then worse, but it may get better and then stall or not get better significantly for a while and then improve faster again.

how can they determine if my foot drop is being caused by my ms or spinal stenosis? i am having an emg done in sept. will this help tell which one?

Unlikely: Lumbar radiculopathy and peroneal neuropathy are much more likely, and sometimes the MRI findings are there but poorly understood.  Further evaluation, emg/ncv of the lower extremities, and additional MRI eval for lateral recess l5s1.

COMPLEX ISSUES: Would suggest that the foot drop most likely due to discogenic compression of l-5 nerve root, but suspect that your neurologist is checking for potential degenerative changes in neck and upper back in addition.  Unlikely that ms is explanation for your brisk reflexes, but maybe the fatigue raises suspicion in the mind of your doctor, so attempt to provide fuller explanation being sought.

Yes, yes: The early name for ms is often hysteria because of its multiple waxing ; waning symptoms--it is frequently accompanied by anxiety ; delpression.

Initially maybe: The MS "hug" is indicative of spinal cord involvement, and may be a presenting feature, but could occur later in form of relapse.  If you have such problems, it could be due to a different cause and this needs sorting out.  If you indeed have MS, you should be placed on potent medication. i have a few ms symptoms of which i am seeing a neuro.  two days ago,  i woke up with a stiff neck, and still today.  is that a ms symptom?

Could be: It could be that your symptoms are from muscle spasm related to the MS. Or it could just be a muscle spasm from overuse or strain. If you have any other symptoms like fever or rash then you need to go to the emergency department as stiff neck with fever and rash can be a sign of meningitis. However, that is rare and if it is just a stiff neck it is probably spasm, try heat and advil (ibuprofen).

Foot drop: This is a complication of multiple sclerosis.  You need to consult with your doctor concerning diagnosis and treatment.

GET TO DOC: Although could be relapse, could also be a co-morbidity, and in either case, sounds like you are having trouble and need help.  If indeed relapse or progression, absolutely needs to be treated and reversed asap.  See your neurologist, and make certain that your medications are potent, not the older self-injectables.
