my gi put me on a baby food diet for 4weeks to help heal my ulcer. also taking dexilant (dexlansoprazole) , would i get better? what r the chances?

Ulcer: Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) is fine. It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. You did not mention if you are also taking antibiotics. Did you get an endoscopy? Do you know if your were tested for H. Pylori ? Most ulcers -- 80% of stomach ulcers and 90% of those in the duodenum, the upper end of the small intestine -- develop because of infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

will an ulcer(6mnth nsaids) ever completely heal and no longer be a problem or will i always have to live with food/lifestyle restrictions and pain???

Ulcer: This depends upon numerous factors; location of ulcer, whether you are Helicobacter pylori positive, whether there are endocrine abnormalities leading to excessive acid secretion, and others. Generally your doctor can sort this out although you may need referral to a GI specialist. The short answer is that this is usually effectively treated and will not persist.

is it normal for an ulcer to last longer than two weeks on the lower labial frenulum? because i keep eating spicy food and grapefruit how do i heal it

Diet/creams: Eat a bland soft diet. You can ask your doctor about oragel and other topical creams that can be placed inside the mouth. All the best.

can i have a list of foods that help heal ulcers faster? also, are we allowed to eat peppermints or drink soy milk? had bloody stool this weekend.

No specific foods: No specific  foods heal ulcers but eating a bland diet can prevent worsening.  Peppermint can increase acid reflux. Soy milk can worsen symptoms if you are sensitive to soy.  If you are having active rectal bleeding you need to be evaluated immediately.  Go to the ER

i have all the symptoms of gastritis or ulcers. bloating,pains,spicy food makes it act up more. can metamucil help.anything better then pepcid to help heal?bloating is the main symptom now and some uncomfortable fatigue with burning muscles working?

: Omeprazole may work better than pepcid. Metamucil helps constipation. For thus, make an appointment with your GP especially with the fatigue and burning muscles. If you have other symptoms such as weight loss, abnormal exam or bloodwork, or a family history of cancer, your GP may either refer you to a gastroenterologist or check for a bacterial infection in the stomach. This can get better!

what can be done to prevent/heal a duodenal bleeding ulcer (no h-pylori). taking 40mg prilosec daily & iron. no nsaids, alcohol? any food/supplement?

Other medication: Carafate can be added to coat the ulcers

Yes: You need to eliminate the cause of the ulcer, which is usually a result of pressure and/or lack of blood flow, edema.

Serious symptoms: Chronic ulcerations can lead to serious consequences.  If you have an ulcer bad enough to prevent ingestion of food, this needs an immediate evaluation.  The possibilities include esophageal constriction or cancer and stomach cancer.  These can be life threatening so get evaluated right away.

Yes: Avoid caffeinated products, alcohol and spicy foods. Also reduce consumption of Motrin, alleve etc
